“The Master of Your Fate”

Taken from one of my favourite poems, Invictus by Ernest Henley
Napoleon Hill describes Henley poem in the very first chapter of his famous book Think and Grow Rich- in a sub- headline



“Why You Are “The Master of Your Fate.”
“When Henley wrote the prophetic lines, “I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul,” he should have informed us that we are the masters of our fate, the captain of our souls because we have the power to control our thoughts. He should have told us that our brains become magnetized with the dominating thoughts which we hold in our minds…”
So does your thoughts generate into tangible things? And do your thoughts affect your goals?
  1. Thoughts together with a Definiteness of Purpose (Knowing exactly what you want) are a recipe for making it happen.
Napoleon Hill, makes the title of the first chapter of his book “Thoughts are Things”
“Truly thoughts are things” and powerful things at that, when they are mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence and a burning desire for their translation into riches, other material objects.”
When things get hard during your journey to achieving your goals it’s your thinking that keeps you in the game.
Simon Sinek calls it your WHY.

Your thoughts, when aligned with your goals/dreams are often the catalysts for your success.
      2. How you think of yourself is important to you achieving your goal.
Your thoughts influence how you feel and how you behave, if you think that you are not good enough, then you will always be looking for ways to reinforce this. You will scrutinise your every move to look for the mistakes and will magnify them as a way to confirm the belief of “not good enough”
This can lead you to self destruct because, on one hand, you want to really achieve your goals but on the other hand, you don’t think that you can because you think that you are not good enough.    
       3. Your beliefs become concrete
Once you find a way to reinforce how you’re feeling by looking and holding on to what you call evidence, then no matter how much others tell you that you can do it, you will never believe that you can.
Here Two things can happen, you give up and throw down your hands or you continue to work in spite of your inner voice. You continue to put the work in.
Rachel Hollis, author of Girl Wash Your Face, New York Times bestseller talks about how many books she wrote that never made it to the list and all the years when she was just doing the work and not being able to make any money from her business.

Conclusion

There is still hope according to Amy Morin, Psychotherapist and international bestselling mental strength author in her article in Forbes published June, 15, 2016.

   1.  Challenge your conclusions – take time out to think about how you think of yourself, not because you think something that makes it the truth. Question yourself and how you arrived at your conclusions.
  2. Look for evidence that is contrary to your beliefs – examine anything that goes against how you think about yourself and your contribution to how you show up. It’s ok to ask others how they see your work, how you contribute and pull all the things that are opposite to what you think. 
   Not everybody is wrong. If you can’t see yourself in a good light then look at yourself through the lens of the people who love and respect you.
   3. Challenge your beliefs – if you think that you are antisocial, find networking groups that you may find interesting and meet up. Regardless of how uncomfortable it feels. I tell you this is where the hard work and growth work comes in

"With practice, you can train your brain to think differently. When you give up those limiting-self beliefs, you’ll be better equipped to reach your greatest potential."
